I can’t believe how the world of aesthetic medicine is ever-changing and evolving; there are new and innovative anti-ageing solutions continually being developed and I thought I would start my first blog and answer some common questions about Profhilo.
A lot of people believe that Profhilo is a relatively new treatment, it was in fact launched in February 2015 in Italy. It has been used, globally with over 150,000 patients treated so far with no adverse reactions.
What is Profhilo?
Profhilo is made from an ultrapure, natural hyaluronic acid (HA) with no chemical cross-linking (thickening) agents, reducing the risk of adverse reactions.
Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) treatment that will enhance and revive even the most tired-looking skin in a course of 2 sessions.
Profhilo is an excellent treatment for use as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with other procedures such as anti-wrinkle injections and traditional dermal fillers
Profhilo is not a dermal filler as such, as it will not increase the volume of a specific area of the face with one or two injections. Instead, it is an ‘injectable skincare’ product for the skin, helping to lift, tone, hydrate and tighten lax areas of the face naturally and subtly.
How does it work?
HA is the body’s own moisturiser. It can be found in the joints, skin and the eyes and holds up to 1000 times its weight in water. As we age, we lose HA rapidly over the years, and this can mean dry, dull, wrinkling and lack-lustre skin. Profhilo works on the principle of slow releasing HA spread over two treatments and administered at five localised points of concern. It can restore moisture levels and create a plumper, bouncier skin appearance with a healthy glow and smoother, porcelain-like texture.
Skin quality is everything when it comes to anti-ageing and because of the high concentration of HA in Profhilo, the skin tissues can be significantly hydrated and rejuvenated.
Where can I have Profhilo?
Profhilo is administered for total skin ‘beautification’ of the following areas:
- Face
- Hands
- Elbows
- Knees
- Décolletage
What can I expect from a Profhilo treatment?
As HA is a naturally occurring sugar found within the body, it is very well tolerated by the skin and has superb hydrating properties for the skin tissues.
There may be some side-effects after a Profhilo treatment, and these would be a slight swelling, redness, localised lumps or tenderness at the injection points; this can occur with any injectable cosmetic treatment and will subside quickly.
How long before I see results?
While you may see an improvement immediately after the first treatment, the best results are visible around 4 weeks after the second treatment. After 8 weeks, your skin will also appear more hydrated, healthy and youthful.
Results can last from 6 to 12 months, depending on your skin quality, your body’s reaction to the substance and lifestyle choices such as smoking or excessive sun exposure. If you eat a healthy diet, don’t smoke, and maintain a good skincare regime which includes protecting your skin from UVA and UVB rays, expect to enjoy maximum longevity of results.
