Anti-ageing Injections
Anti-ageing injections can be used to temporarily lessen the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face.
Why choose anti-ageing injections?
The treatment is often used to address the forehead, crow’s feet and the lines that develop around the nose, mouth, and lips. It can also be used to address an ‘orange peel’ chin, vertical neck bands and gummy smiles.
Gone are the days of the surprised, overdone look. Dr. Georgiana focuses on creating natural results that make the face appear fresh and revived.
How long does it take to work?
Improvements are visible within 2-5 days and you’ll see the optimal results after about 14 days.
Since the results are gradual, people will often notice that you look fresher and more youthful but won’t know why.
How long does it last?
The effects typically last between 3-4 months but may vary from patient to patient.
If you need an adjustment, you’re welcome to book back in from 2-3 weeks after your initial treatment.
How do I maintain and optimise the results?
The best results generally come from repeating full treatment every 12-16 weeks.
This means that the facial muscles are already relaxed from the previous session, so your skin is creasing less, and the wrinkles are not being reinforced. Longer intervals are less effective because facial muscles tend to regain their original size and strength.
What does the treatment entail?
This is a simple procedure which takes about 30 minutes.
You must have a consultation prior to each treatment, even if you’ve been many times before. After making sure you are comfortable, the procedure generally involves 4-6 carefully placed injections per area of treatment.
There is no need for any anaesthetic. We use very fine needles and even mild discomfort is uncommon. If you prefer, ice or numbing cream can be applied to minimise the sensation.
What aftercare is involved?
The treatment has minimal recovery time and there is very little aftercare required. Immediately following treatment, you can enhance its effects by gently moving the treated area with mild facial exercises. However, for the first two hours after treatment, it’s important not to rub the affected areas.
Don’t engage in any vigorous exercise, drink alcohol, expose yourself to the sun (artificial or natural) or take hot baths and showers for up to 24 hours after treatment.
How does the treatment work?
Anti-ageing injections (Botulinum Toxin Type A) relax the muscle that causes skin to crease, making wrinkles fade or disappear altogether. It’s a simple and popular treatment.
In medical terms this is called selective muscle denervation. Nerve and muscle meet at what is known as the neuromuscular junction. Before treatment, the nerve sends a signal to the muscle to request movement. After the treatment, the nerve continues to work as normal, but the muscle remains still.
Over 3-5 months, the effect gradually wears off and the muscle is able to move again.
Who should avoid this treatment?
Pregnant and breastfeeding mums should not have treatment. Also, people with neurological diseases such as Myasthenia Gravis and Parkinson’s Disease, consumers of certain antibiotics (namely Erythromycin) and those using blood-thinning medications including Warfarin or Heparin.
Are there any side effects?
You may experience some minor redness or mild swelling, but this should subside very quickly. Minor bruising does happen on occasions. There is a risk of a temporary drop of the eyelid when treating the frown area, but this is rare.
What about other treatments?
You need to be careful with semi-permanent make-up treatment on your eyebrows and lips. This is because anti-aging injections can move the position of your eyebrows and lips temporarily. Please leave at least a 2 week gap between the two treatments.
You should also leave 2 weeks before having other treatments such as glycolic peels, facials, micro needling.
